Stepping Stones to English: ELL Curriculum Our specialized curriculum, Stepping Stones to English, provides sound, direct instruction of Shurley English in Spanish first and then with an Integrated Language Phase. Instruction begins in Spanish so that students develop strong literacy skills in their home language first; then, we progress into side-by-side language study to bridge the two languages systematically. Finally, we progress into English as the primary language of instruction.
